Who among us hasn't thought to themselves from time to time as they wandered down a clothing isle that they too can design beautiful clothing and fashion accessories just like the big names in fashion design do every day. What is it about them that makes them so different and why are their designs hanging on the racks and not yours?
The fact of the matter is that it often takes years of work and sacrifice before a person gains recognition for their work as a top name fashion designer. Liz Claiborne for instance, spent twenty years working for other people in their New York fashion design houses before she was able to strike out on her own in the late 1970s and even then she took a big financial risk when she did it.
You have to understand that fashion design is a very competitive business and thinking that you can become an overnight success is just wishful thinking. Learning to draw, sew and work with fabrics is one thing that you can do in preparation for attending a fashion design school, because the more prepared you are, the better your chances of achieving some measure of success in the long run.
The fact is, that one of the first things that Liz Claiborne did prior to ever beginning her first job in a New York design house was to study art extensively in Europe. Before one can first achieve anything they first have to have the dream of achieving but beyond the dreaming step is a lot of hard work and dedication.
However; the fact is that someone is going to be designing and producing the clothing and fashion accessories that people are going to be wearing in the future and it could be you if you choose to dedicate yourself to doing it.
